PRESENTATION :
Presentation of this beautiful road bike, fresh out of the workshop this past spring. The owner wanted a bike that would strike a balance between a classic, clean aesthetic and modern components. The frame, fillet-brazed from Columbus HSS-Spirit tubing, has slim and elegant lines, giving the machine both lightness and comfort. The choice of smaller-diameter tubes allows for a slight increase in flexibility, which will be appreciated on the long rides the bike is intended for. The clean visual look of this build is also achieved through the fully integrated brake hoses and the use of a Sram Force 2x12v electronic groupset, eliminating the need for any cables or wires. Additional inserts were added to the frame to allow for a top-tube bag as well as a third bottle cage.
As is often the case at Avalanche, we relied on Duke, a French brand, to build custom wheels, this time laced around hubs from Aivee, also machined in France. Their 36 mm carbon profile offers the perfect balance between lightness and performance. On the components side, both the seatpost and stem are from Tune, a brand you’ll regularly see on our builds. We particularly appreciate the quality of these German-made components and the smooth communication with this human-sized company. Although made from aluminum, their components rival many carbon ones, often coming in lighter while proving more durable over time.
To contrast with the black components, the paint chosen for this bike is deliberately bright and vivid. To preserve the classic spirit of some steel bikes, the client opted for metallic silver on part of the chainstays and seatstays, since applying a simple clear coat directly onto bare steel is not recommended. This aesthetic choice is complemented by a subtle gradient from pearly beige to metallic red, punctuated by a white panel featuring the Avalanche logo—a detail often found on vintage steel bikes as well.
